Lemongrass is reported to have first appeared in Chinese, Sri Lankan and East Indian medicine primarily to treat fevers, digestive issues and skin infections. It may have been secretly exported by the Philippines as early as the 17th century, but came into wider global circulation in 1905, when news spread of a Sri Lankan researcher, J.F. Jovit, conducting research into its therapeutic benefits. Best known for its culinary properties, Lemongrass has also gained popularity as an effective essential oil due to is health benefits and variety of applications.
