HISTORY OF PETITGRAIN ESSENTIAL OIL

Petitgrain was used for medicinal purposes in China, Haiti and South America to treat digestion, nausea, colds and flu and skin blemishes long before the process of distillation had been invented. Sharing history with Neroli, it originated in South-East Asia, arriving in Seville by the end of the 12th Century. It was also one of the first of the orange species to reach the ‘New World’ in 1493 on Columbus’ second voyage. The name “Petitgrain” originates from the French “little grains” due to the fact that it was originally extracted from the small, unripe oranges.
