HISTORY OF THYME ESSENTIAL OIL

Thyme has been used for thousands of years, recorded as long ago as 1550BC in an Ancient Egyptian medical document, as well as being a part of the embalming and mummification process. Sumerians used it as an antiseptic, while Greeks would use it in cleansing ceremonies. Roman soldiers were reported to have bathed in a Thyme-infused bath prior to battle for protection and instil courage and strength. In the Middle Ages, herbalists used Thyme to ward off evil spirits and bad dreams, tucking them under pillows for better sleep. Its restorative properties are still recognised today.
