Four Scents Team

Botanical Name: Citrus Reticulata

BENEFITS

Soothing
Helps Digestion
Boosts Skin Health

Aroma: Sweet, Rich, Slightly Floral.
Found on evergreen mandarin trees native to China and surrounding regions, Mandarin is the smaller member of the orange family. It has similar properties but gentler.
History
Its origins are unknown but Mandarin was first recorded for its digestive benefits in China and associated with nobility, being a traditional offering to Chinese mandarins (hence the origins of its name). However, it didn’t arrive in Europe until 1805, introduced by the natural historian Sir Abraham Hume, who brought the fruit over to England from China. From there, it was introduced to Malta, Sicily and Italy, where it is now mainly produced. Like its citrus counterparts, Mandarin is popular in the food industry, while its essential oil is particularly suitable for children due to its low toxicity.

How Does Mandarin Soothe?
Mandarin’s cheering, relaxing but uplifting aroma treats irritability and restlessness, and is particularly good for treating hyperactivity and tantrums in children. It’s also beneficial in treating stress and nervous tension. This is attributed to a compound that occurs called terpenes.

Can Mandarin Help Digestion?
The antispasmodic actions of Mandarin ease indigestion, hiccups and calms spasms. It also strengthens the liver and digestive functions. Mandarin can be used to treat problems arising from a slow digestion. Inhalation stimulates appetite and massage provides relief from pain and nausea.

How Does Mandarin Boost Skin Health?
Mandarin has a detoxifying effect in that it treats water retention, cellulite and helps prevent stretch marks.  Its astringent qualities help to combat oily skin and blemishes, keeping pores clear. Mandarin effectively improves the elasticity of the skin and helps neutralise free radicals that damage skin.
